Pet ROI Guide: Maximize Your Gem Investment
Every gem you spend should generate returns. Learn to analyze pet ROI and invest wisely in the pets that will accelerate your progression.
What is Pet ROI?
Return on Investment (ROI) measures how much value you get from a gem expenditure. A pet with high ROI generates more currency (tokens or gems) than a pet with low ROI, making it a smarter investment.
ROI Formula: (Pet's Total Earnings Over Time - Gem Cost) ÷ Gem Cost
A pet with 200% ROI means you get back twice as many gems as you invested, making it a solid purchase. A pet with negative ROI should be avoided unless it unlocks special bonuses.
Factors That Impact Pet ROI
- Base earnings rate: How many tokens per second the pet generates
- Multiplier bonuses: How the pet scales with other pets and game progression
- Earning duration: How long you'll actively use this pet before trading it
- Synergy value: How much it enhances other pets' earnings
- Variant tier: Premium variants (Gold, Rainbow, Galaxy) cost more but earn exponentially more
High-ROI Pet Strategies
Early Game: Prioritize pets with the highest gems-per-token ratio. You want rapid currency generation to reach early milestones quickly. Common pets are often better investments early on because the gem cost is low.
Mid Game: Balance between cheap high-ROI pets and rare pets that unlock new gameplay features. This is where synergy starts mattering—investing in a rare pet that boosts three other pets' earnings might have incredible total ROI.
Late Game: Focus on premium variants and exclusive pets. While they cost more gems, their earning potential is dramatically higher, and you have the resources to justify the investment.
Calculating Your Own ROI
To calculate if a specific pet is worth buying:
- Note the gem cost (X gems)
- Estimate total tokens this pet will generate while you own it (Y tokens)
- Convert back to gem value using current exchange rates (Y ÷ gem cost per token)
- Compare: If result > X gems, it's a positive ROI investment
In practice, use MoonValues' pet value data to compare pets. Pets with higher trading values relative to their cost usually have strong ROI potential.
Common ROI Mistakes
- Buying rare pets early: Rare pets are expensive. In early game, that gem cost could buy multiple high-earning common pets.
- Ignoring time horizon: A pet you'll own for 2 weeks has different ROI than one you'll own for 2 months.
- Not accounting for synergy: One pet's ROI can be completely different when paired with another pet that boosts it.
- Chasing cosmetics: Prestige pets look cool but may have lower ROI than high-earning variants. Know the difference.
ROI vs. Trading Value
A pet with high ROI is good for personal progression. But remember, once you rebirth or get bored with a pet, you'll likely trade it. Always check our value list to see what pets currently trade for. Sometimes a high-ROI pet isn't worth much on the market, while a lower-earning pet commands premium trading prices.
