Trade Calculator Guide: Compare Values & Spot Fair Deals

Never get scammed again. Learn to use the trade calculator to verify every trade instantly.

What is the Trade Calculator?

The MoonValues trade calculator is a tool that instantly compares the value of pets you're trading. It helps you:

  • Add pets from both sides of a trade
  • See the total value for each side
  • Spot if someone is offering less than they're asking
  • Verify that both players are getting fair value
  • Make data-driven trading decisions

Step-by-Step: Using the Calculator

Step 1: Open the Calculator

Navigate to the calculator page for your game (Steal a Brainrot or Tap Simulator). You'll see two columns: "Your Offer" and "Their Offer."

Step 2: Add Your Pets

In the "Your Offer" column, search for and add each pet you're offering. The calculator will automatically pull the current value from our database. You can add multiple pets to build a complete offer.

Step 3: Add Their Pets

In the "Their Offer" column, add each pet they're requesting. Again, values are automatically populated.

Step 4: Compare Total Values

The calculator shows two totals. If the numbers are equal or very close, it's a fair trade. If one side is significantly higher, you're either getting ripped off or offering too much.

Step 5: Make a Decision

Use the comparison to negotiate. If you're offering more value, ask for additional pets. If they're offering less, politely decline or counter-offer.

Interpreting Calculator Results

Perfectly Fair (Equal Values): Both sides are getting approximately equal value. These are the best trades to accept.

Slightly Unbalanced (5-10% difference): Minor differences happen due to market fluctuations and rounding. This is usually acceptable if you want the pet.

Significantly Unbalanced (15%+ difference): One side is clearly getting the better deal. Don't accept unless you have a specific reason (e.g., you really want that pet).

Heavily Unbalanced (25%+ difference): This is likely a scam attempt. Don't trade unless the other player corrects the offer.

Common Calculator Mistakes to Avoid

  • Forgetting to add all pets: Make sure you've entered every pet from both sides. Miscounting one pet can swing the entire trade.
  • Using outdated values: Values change frequently. Always use the calculator's current values, not prices you saw a week ago.
  • Ignoring pet variants: Gold, Rainbow, and Galaxy variants have different values. Make sure you're comparing the right variant.
  • Not accounting for demand: The calculator shows list value, but hot-demand pets may trade above value. Use this as context, not gospel.
  • Trusting values blindly: If a pet's value seems way off, check the value list directly. Report outliers to our Discord community.

Pro Tips for Trade Accuracy

Screenshot Before Trading: Take a screenshot of the calculator results before confirming the trade. This creates a record of what both players agreed to.

Round to the Nearest 5-10: Don't get hung up on exact numbers. If the trade is within 5-10 value points and you want the pet, it's fair enough.

Factor in Your Goals: Sometimes accepting a slightly unbalanced trade is worth it if you're working toward a specific pet. The calculator helps you make informed choices, not dictates trades.

Verify Pet Names Carefully: Some pets have very similar names. Double-check that you're entering "King Kraken" and not "Kraken King" (if they're different pets).

Always Compare Before Committing

The 30 seconds it takes to run a trade through the calculator could save you from losing significant value. Make it a habit: calculator first, trade second. This simple step has prevented thousands of bad trades.

What the Calculator CAN'T Tell You

  • Pet demand: A pet with high value but low demand might be harder to trade later. Check the demand indicator on the value list.
  • Future value changes: Values fluctuate with game updates and meta shifts. Today's good deal might not be tomorrow's.
  • Scam prevention: The calculator compares values but can't prevent someone from lying about owning a pet or backing out of the trade.
  • Your personal satisfaction: You might value owning a specific pet more than its numerical value. That's okay—the calculator is a guide, not a rule.
